Wisconsinites call Door County their Cape Cod, and it earns the comparison: a slender peninsula reaching into Lake Michigan, lined with harbor villages, cherry orchards, state parks, and lighthouses. What many visitors don't realize is that it's also home to a genuinely great beer scene. Door County Brewing Company The peninsula's flagship is Door County Brewing in Baileys Harbor, founded in 2013 and home to the Hacienda Beer Co. label. Its striking taproom and music hall host live shows all season, and the lineup of farmhouse ales, hazy IPAs, and fruited sours is as good as anything in the state. It's the natural centerpiece of a Door County beer weekend. Ahnapee Brewery On the way up the peninsula, stop in Algoma at Ahnapee Brewery, which revives a brewing name dating to the 1860s. It's a relaxed, welcoming first or last stop, with an approachable lineup and a second taproom in Suamico near Green Bay. The Lakeshore Route The drive up from Milwaukee is a beer trail in itself. In Sheboygan, 3 Sheeps Brewing anchors the lakeshore with creative, well made beers in a big downtown taproom — a perfect midpoint on the way north. Planning the Trip Door County is a destination, not a day…
