Milwaukee is, quite literally, the city that beer built. Its brewing history is inseparable from its identity, and while the old giants have consolidated, a vibrant modern scene has taken root all over the city. Here's how to explore it. Lakefront Brewery Start on the Milwaukee River at Lakefront Brewery, founded by the Klisch brothers in 1987. The riverside taproom pours the flagship Riverwest Stein amber lager, and the famously entertaining tour is a Milwaukee rite of passage. Come on a Friday for one of the best fish fries in the city. Third Space Brewing In the Menomonee Valley just west of downtown, Third Space has been one of the city's most popular breweries since 2016.
